Bythecon Chicago - October, 2015

Good morning everyone! Today's Toy Army Tuesday is a throwback to last October's Blythecon in Chicago. I meant to share it with you all earlier, but better late than never.

The event was held October 18th at the beautiful Bridgeport Art Center. The theme was Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I have been wanting to attend Blythecon since they held it in Texas, but I could never find time off work or the funds to go. As soon as I heard it was in my hometown I knew I had to go!

Above are my two dolls. The redhead, Pansy, I purchased at the event from one of my favorite artists - Mab Graves. This Blythecon could very well be Mab's last, and it was the last time she was going to create her Mab Girl blythe dolls due to arthritis in her hands, so I knew this would be my only chance to purchase one. The cute blonde, Juniper, is my 6-line kenner I thrifted for $3 (you can read more about the adventure - here) at a flea market. Kenner Blythe dolls can range from $400 in poor condition (missing legs) to $3,000 - so trust me, she is one of my prized possessions and I nearly had a heart attack when I found her!

Cuteness overload, right? It has been month's since the event, so I apologize, I do not have all the artists and various collectors names to attach with my photos. Butttt if you are interested in knowing about one of the dolls, or would like for me to add credit please let me know and i'd be happy to look in to it for you or add your information.

That morning I was the second person in line and giddy and nervous beyond belief. I met so many wonderful people from all over the world at the event. I was blown away by just how friendly everyone was. It was also so nice to be able to talk about these dolls without blank stares. Above is a photo of Mab and I. I always get nervous meeting artists I follow but she was beyond sweet! I have been interested in Blythe dolls for years now, I even dragged my poor friend Mike to Junie Moon a few years back while I was visiting him in Japan, so it was about time that I finally found my way to Blythecon.

Do any of you collect Blythe's? I am currently working on customizing one and hope to share the progress with you soon.

Have a great day :]
