Hi all! Hope you had a lovely weekend. Today's post is coming to you a bit delayed because I am just getting settled back in from my 4th of July weekend. My family and I spent the extended weekend up at our family friend's (the Lyons') lake house. The weekend was full of: friends, fireworks on the river, kayaking, s'mores, jello shots, a trip to the farmers market, and a parade to boot. It was so nice to get away from it all for a bit.
Sweetpea was beyond pumped as well to get away. The first summer we adopted her (8 years ago!) she had been really sick, and we honestly were not sure if she was going to make it. In the month we had her she never made a peep. The 4th of July rolled around and she was still hanging in there so we took her up to the cabin us. It was then/there that she let loose and turned in to the sassy pup we know and love today. She just needed some fresh air and Mississippi mud.
I decided to let my inner domestic goddess shine and whipped up this Nacho American flag. Not going to lie, it was pretty tasty! Thank you pinterest ;]
At 4pm on the 4th each year the neighborhood throws on a parade. Anyone is welcome to hop on in, so we dressed up pea in a fairy princess (a.k.a. pride fairy) costume, and my brother, his girlfriend and friends dressed up as fish flies. For those of you unfamiliar with fish flies I have attached an image of them. Each year they rise from the river to spawn for a day - there are millions of them, and they are pretty darn gross and annoying, but thankfully harmless.
I wish I had a shot of the whole fish fly crew (Sorry guys!! I snapped them all on other people's phones, unfortunately). Any who, the parade concluded with Henry singing the Star Spangled Banner, which was pretty neat.
I am so thankful to have such amazing family and friends who make weekends like this possible. The 4th of July is by far one of my favorite holidays :]
